Asiento System
A system in which the Spanish Crown granted monopolies (asientos) to private individuals or companies to import enslaved Africans into the Spanish colonies, often in exchange for a tax.

Chattel Slavery
A system of slavery where enslaved people are treated as personal property (chattel) with no legal rights, subject to being bought, sold, and inherited.

Conquistadors
Spanish conquerors and explorers who led expeditions to the Americas in the 16th century, seeking wealth, glory, and to spread Christianity.

Encomienda System
A labor system established by the Spanish Crown in the Americas, granting Spanish colonists (encomenderos) control over Native American labor and tribute in exchange for their protection and conversion to Catholicism.

Mestizos
A term used in the Spanish Caste System to describe individuals of mixed European and Indigenous ancestry.

Spanish Caste System

The Middle Passage

Transatlantic Slave Trade

Triangular Trade
